Methods of extinguishing fire

Ø  Starvation – elimination of fuel in order to extinguish fire.(For class C fires)

Ø  Smothering / blanketing – elimination of O2 in order to extinguish fire.(For class B fires)

Ø  Cooling – elimination of heat in order to extinguish fire.(For class A fires)

Ø  Inhibiting – elimination of exothermic reaction of substances, which contains O2 within them.(For classes C & D fires)

·       Certain fires are due to self-sustaining continuous exothermic chemical reactions.
·       To extinguish these type of fires—break the chain reaction. (i.e.) Inhibiting.
